Imagine learning that someone you loved, the person who had been your role model and rock, had a past life so deep and dark that it obliterated your entire relationship.

Silver Goodbye takes off fast when Buck Reilly, the once famous archeologist who lost his company, fortune, supermodel wife, and parents, makes a discovery that shakes the fragile foundation of his world. The revelation sends Buck back to Key West aboard the Beast, his ancient flying boat, to search for answers to a thirty-year-old family mystery and a cache of untold riches.

Turns out that Jade Diaz, the daughter of a dead drug smuggler is on the same hunt, and when she reluctantly teams with Buck, the dark past returns to hunt them with a vengeance.

To make matters worse, Hurricane Irma is ripping a path of destruction through the Caribbean, forcing Buck to race against its descent onto the Keys to save Jade and find the buried stash before the storm surge washes it away.

Silver Goodbye will shake you at the start, stir you in the middle, and blow you away at the end.

Great book! I think it’s probably my favorite of the series. Irma sure made an interesting twist to the story. I rode out Irma west of Tampa in Palm Harbor. I was working one of the Hurricane Shelters and I’ll never forget how scary it was that morning when HQ told us to brace, we were going to get hit by the lead edge as a Cat 5, or how relieved I felt watching on the screen as the back end fell apart and it arrived as barely a Cat 2. Crazy times. Reading about Irma with Buck Reilly front and center chasing treasure really added power to the story! To me, Buck Reilly is one of the most likable Florida fiction characters since John D McDonald’s Travis McGee. Both men are characters who are better than they give themselves credit for being, because their drive for doing good things and helping others comes from deep within who they are. Great read!

I love how John has evolved this series into worldwide international thrillers without forsaking the Keys treasure, boats, and planes vibe. As Buck is thrust into further turmoil over his heritage the plot twists and turns, taking his faithful group and vintage seaplane to incredible European destinations, steeped in history and treachery. I loved every page of this adventure.

John Cunningham does it again with a Buck Reilly tale that keeps the pages moving. It is both entertaining and informative regarding Key West’s earliest founders, but not all treasure is silver and gold.
